Free, and free in the way that does not have a catch at the end.

Financial wellness workshops across the Northland, paid for by employers and grants rather than by the people in the room. Nobody is sold anything and no data leaves the session.

A community room set up before a workshop, folding chairs in a ring on a tiled floor and a trestle table with a jug of water at the front.
A heap of unopened window envelopes tipped across a kitchen table beside a mug, under a lamp in the evening.

Why free actually means free here

Most free financial education is marketing for a product. A seminar ends with an insurance pitch, or a budgeting app that harvests your accounts, or an adviser who takes a percentage. The education is the hook.

This is funded the other way round. Employers pay for sessions for their staff and grants cover the community workshops. The people in the room are not the customer, which is the only structure where free is honest.

That means nobody here can sell you anything even if they wanted to. There are no products, no referral fees and no commission. If you need a regulated adviser we will tell you and we get nothing for saying so.

It also means we can say unpopular things. Sometimes the answer is that the car has to go, and an organisation that earns on your loan will never be the one to tell you.

An empty hall with a worn wooden floor, chairs stacked along one wall and tall windows down the other.

One-to-one help

An hour, in private, with somebody who has seen worse than whatever you are bringing.

Two chairs pulled up to a small round table in a corner, a jug of water, two glasses and a box of tissues on it.
